JONES BEACH STATE PARK

Jones Beach State Park is located on one of the long, narrow barrier islands found often on the Atlantic coastline, and is accessible by parkway and bridges that cross the bay from the mainland of Long Island. This slender island extends for 17 miles along the ocean and is rarely more than ½ mile wide at any point. Although there are no hotels directly in the park, Gateway Inn is the closest hotel to Jones Beach, only a seven-minute drive away.

The park itself has over six miles of superb white-sand beaches – great, outstanding surf and sun, with summer beach cuisine at each parking location. On busy summer days, arrive early for the best spots.

Jones Beach Swimming Pool

Swimming pools are in the West Bathhouse and East Bathhouse complexes by the boardwalk. On the bay side of the island, away from the surf, there is a beautiful cove known as Zach's Bay. The swimming pools and Zach's Bay are ideal for families with younger children.

The JonesBeach boardwalk is two miles long and completes the idyllic summer landscape. And long after the peak summer season, the boardwalk is wonderful for walks or jogging - in the fall and spring - but still fantastic even on mild winter days.

For summer season, the boardwalk features miniature golf, pitch & putt golf, children's  playgrounds, outdoor roller-skating, and at night, a band shell with music & dancing.

The Jones Beach Theater tops off the summer with outdoor concerts by first line groups. It is best to reserve tickets early.

Jones Beach remains a place with an unspoiled, natural quality and presence. The park's boardwalk and event areas are all low-key in style and fit beautifully into the natural landscape. Bird sanctuaries and nature preserves cover the hundreds of acres between the many public areas. This unique state park is truly a treasure on our Atlantic coastline.
